3D Printing, Art, China…all this is Art Mogao Caves 2019, International Contemporary Sculpture Competition<\/strong> organized by theAccademia Dei Romani<\/strong> on commission from the Gansu Silk Road Internationa EXPO (China).<\/strong> And we, with our studio, were the technical partners for everything related to online communication and promotion. Catalog, Photos, Video, Website, Social Network…But not only that. Thanks to this project, Grillo Design has equipped itself with a small laboratory for Design and 3D Printing<\/strong>, increasing skills and services. What to say. A unique experience! All to be told! \ud83d\ude42 And we do so in the words of Gerardo Lo Russo, former Director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, now Director of the Accademia Dei Romani in Guidonia Montecelio. <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”roboto|300|||||||” text_font_size=”18px” text_line_height=”1.8em” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Art Mogao Caves Working Group 2019<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.grillodesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/90603642_10222214468974506_542156474848116736_o.jpg” title_text=”90603642_10222214468974506_542156474848116736_o” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” border_width_all=”10px” border_color_all=”#F3F7F7″ global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”roboto|300|||||||” text_font_size=”18px” text_line_height=”1.8em” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n When I visited Dunhuang, I was enchanted by the uniqueness of the place surrounded by the golden dunes of the desert, the oasis of the Crescent Moon, but most of all by a kind of subtle inspiration in the rarefied air, as if the plateau was cloaked in extraordinary light and mysterious silence. Then I saw the Mogao caves and realized: this kind of perception had already been experienced and painted in centuries past by many Buddhist monks. In the hundreds of caves are depicted stories of travelers, scattered peoples, feelings and moods of daily life, customs and traditions thousands of years old, and I felt like I had already dreamed of that curious and fascinating world. Then I asked myself, how can I help enhance these sacred places of memory that have brought together different cultures and peoples of East and West? Fortunately, the Silk International Road honored the Accademia Dei Romani – Rome Fine Arts Institute to design sculpture prototypes, inspired by the cave paintings, in order to create monumental works on the Silk Road. This gave rise to the idea of promoting the ARTMOGAOCAVES Competition, participated by thousands of artists, of whom a few hundred submitted various proposals. During the publication of the competition, we received certificates of encouragement, admiration and affection from cities such as Venice, Milan, Florence, Perugia, Naples and, of course, Rome, as the initiative bears witness to the historical moment of great Chinese development, including in Lanzhou and Gansu Province. The evaluation carried out by the Italian committee selected 84 proposals, which were then more specifically evaluated by the Chinese committee. This resulted in a group of 25 proposals, particularly relevant to cave paintings, on which we undertook to make as many prototypes in different materials and techniques. The need to reproduce the works in large formats necessitated the use of 3D design, which was followed by modeling of the prototypes made mostly by 3D printing. However, the artists’ direct input was significant in both creation and postproduction. In fact, some prototypes were made several times in order to allow for future reproducibility in large formats. The quality of the result manifests the enthusiasm experienced by all, so I thank the judging committees, the competition coordination, the technical operators, all the participating artists, and of course the governance of Dunhuang for the trust and foresight given to us. This kind of event served to show that Art, like the Silk Road, is the Way to communicate between peoples and cultures, overcoming any barriers.
