In this project, Grillo Design Studio had the honor of working on one of master Antonio Canova’s most emblematic works, The Dancer with Cymbals.
The goal was to transform this analog sculpture into an interactive digital experience, making the work accessible and usable to a global audience through innovative technologies.
Using high-resolution 3D scans, we captured every detail of the sculpture, preserving the delicacy of its forms and the elegance of its movement.
Next, we created an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience, allowing users to explore the sculpture in virtual and interactive environments via both mobile and desktop devices.
The result is a dialogue between the past and the present, in which classical art is reinterpreted through digital technologies, expanding the possibilities of enjoyment and sharing of cultural heritage.
Through this digitization, The Dancer with Cymbals not only lives again in the contemporary world, but also becomes accessible to a new generation of art lovers and scholars.
Grillo Design Studio was the protagonist of an extraordinary event held at the Italian Parliament, where the digitization of Antonio Canova’s La Danzatrice con Cembali was presented.
The event was attended by important figures from the world of art and culture, including art critic Vittorio Sgarbi, who praised the initiative for its innovative approach to the conservation and enjoyment of artistic heritage.
During the opening, guests were treated to a unique immersive experience, exploring the work through augmented reality and digital interactivity, making tangible the potential of new technologies applied to classical art.
“This project not only protects Canova’s legacy, but also makes it accessible to a wider audience, bringing younger generations closer to art,” Sgarbi commented.
The event marked a turning point in the dialogue between culture and innovation, demonstrating how digital technologies can bring new life and meaning to immortal works of art.
During the event, Grillo Design Studio also announced the creation and sale of the first phygital NFT derived from Canova’s work La Danzatrice con Cembali.
This innovative project combines the physical and digital worlds: the NFT represents the digitized sculpture in augmented reality, while the buyer also receives an exclusive miniature physical reproduction of the work, created through high-precision 3D printing techniques.
This fusion of tangible and intangible marks a new chapter in the enhancement of artistic heritage, making La Danzatrice con Cembali the first classical Italian sculpture to be transformed into a collectible experience in both the physical world and the metaverse.
NFT phygital has attracted the interest of international collectors, confirming the growing value of digital art and its ability to connect the past with the future through new models of ownership and fruition.
